The Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District (LPGCD) will hold a public hearing on the proposed Desired Future Conditions (DFCs) for the groundwater resources of Bastrop and Lee counties on Wednesday, September 16, at 3:30 PM at the District office, 317 E Hempstead St., Giddings, TX. The District's regular Board of Directors meeting will immediately follow the hearing.

Desired Future Conditions (DFCs) are the groundwater management goals established through a regional planning process conducted by Groundwater Management Area 12 (GMA 12), which includes five groundwater conservation districts: Brazos Valley GCD; Fayette County GCD; Lost Pines GCD; Mid-East Texas GCD; and, Post Oak Savannah GCD. DFCs describe the desired water drawdown of an aquifer at a future point in time and serve as the foundation for groundwater management across the region. They help guide groundwater availability modeling, permitting decisions, and long-term planning to balance water use and conservation for future generations.

Every five years, groundwater conservation districts across Texas review and update these management goals using the best available science, groundwater models, and local input. The current planning cycle will establish DFCs for the next 50-year planning horizon.

The September 16 public hearing is an opportunity for residents, landowners, businesses, agricultural producers, and well owners to learn more about the proposed DFCs and provide comments before the District moves forward in the planning process. Public input is an important part of developing groundwater management goals, and all comments received will be compiled and submitted for consideration by GMA 12.

Following the public comment period, GMA 12 will review all comments before considering final adoption of the DFCs. The final vote on the proposed DFCs is scheduled to occur at the GMA 12 level on January 5, 2027.
